A university group in the East of England has identified a novel pathway that affects autophagy and consequently neurodegeneration. Attenuation of neurodegeneration has been proven in vivo using antagonists in the cAMP/EPAC/PLC pathway. Synergy with rapamycin was demonstrated. Pharmaceutical companies are sought for licensing and joint further development.
Rapid screening for toxicity and efficacy of cancer drug candidates using human cell lines
