BCC: Nearly 90% of UK businesses support EU membership
A new snap poll conducted by the British Chamber of Commerce has found that 88% of British firms want to remain within the 27 nation trading bloc.
The survey drew the opinions of almost 2,000 businesses, many of whom (55%) agreed that a in / out referendum on EU membership was not an urgent issue.
However, an overwhelming majority of those polled (85%) did not want to see further powers transferred to Brussels.
Commenting on the poll, British Prime Minister David Cameron said: "Britain's interest - trading a vast share of our GDP - is to be in those markets (the EU). Not just buying, selling, investing, receiving investment, but also helping to write the rules. If we were outside, we wouldn't be able to do that”.
