A Portuguese SME has developed an intelligent fuzzy controller that can easily be applied to manage different industrial control systems. The technology can be used in systems in which inputs canīt be defined in terms of true or false but by using continuous values between 0 (false) and 1(true). The company is looking for partners for commercial agreements with technical cooperation.

Full description

Fuzzy control systems are systems in which the control is based on fuzzy logic. This means that the inputs to the system can assume continuous values between 0 and 1, in contrast to classical or digital logic, which operates on discrete values of either 0 or 1 (true or false). In this kind of logic concepts cannot be expressed as "true" or "false" but rather as "partially true".

The traditional control systems are based on mathematical models in which the system can be described using one or more differential equations that define the system response to its inputs but in many cases, the mathematical model of the control process may be absent. In some cases empirical rules are used because they prove to be more effective than traditional logic.

The developed technology uses adaptative and predictive fuzzy control methodologies and can be used combined with existing traditional control systems. The existing framework is therefore a system composed of virtual sensors capable of using certain physical parameters to evaluate others.

The data that is acquired using the standard OPC protocol is fed into an outlier detection system, passes through a variable correlation process and which selects the inputs and values of the process. Different regression methods are then applied to generate the optimized outputs of the system.

This characteristics makes the framework adequate to be used in large and complex control systems where all the variables of the processes are not well known and in which empirical rules are used instead of standard logic (true, false).
